Alamak Chat ClientCurrent Client Release ( Alamak1e.exe first release )Alamak has developed a new client for faster chatting. Alamak is the only chat which has both a client and web interface. The client features advanced wait handling, continuous scrolling, and much more. The current client release only works for Windows95 and Windows98. It should work with NT soon and eveutally plan to produce Mac and Xwindows (unix) versions. Download SitesFTP Download ( from USA ) HTTP Download ( from Asia ) FTP Download ( from Asia ) Special 2 Part InstallIf you need to install a client from floppy disk, you can now copy the two parts xaa.exe and xab.exe to floppies.1) Copy both files back to the hard drive on the target machine. 2) Open a MSDOS Prompt window and change to directoy cd C:\ assuming that you put the files on your C drive. 3) copy /b xaa.exe+xab.exe Alamak1e.exe 4) Then from windows click on the Alamak1e.exe to install. Known BugsWhen you have SAVE PREFERENCES the client and wait doesn't allow you to CHANGE TO ANOTHER NICK and the wait does not connect if chatting under another nickname. It also doesn't let you just "unset" the nickname and password. This will be fixed in the next client release. The short term solution is to use Start/Find/Files and Folders and look for *.prop and then drag the chat.prop and wait.prop files into the trash. Then you can then re-enter a different nick and password.Clicking on the nickname of a person is supposed to put '/msg nick' in the input field, but instead puts '/msg [nick]' with the braces. A server change has been made to work around it and it won't affect chatting. Wish List !!!I'd like to see the seperate wait client removed and the chat client improved such that the wait can run on it's own with either to be launched from the other. The wait should still try to launch automatically on startup and reconnect if the network is disrupted and restored later. This does work now with the wait client but the chat and wait portions of the program should be integrated. As it works now it seems the chat client has it's own wait window in addition to the independent wait which launches by itself at first.Nicknames change order in the message pulldown which is slightly confusing, it might be better to just append new nicks to the bottom. It would be nice if the private chat windows also could follow the main chat window color setting and the background color setting be kept from session to session like the login properties. I prefer gray to white. It would also be nice to be able to set font color in the private chat to allow threading or draw attention to the other persons messages.
The option for inviting multiple people to private chat sessions doesn't seem to
work yet. There is no way to invite in more than one person since it always opens
a new window for each person. But, the private chat feature is still really slick. |
