| Comments | Your bears are beautiful. I would love to talk to you about braving it to get in shows and really get out in the bear world. I just talked to a shop today about selling my bears. I currently have my bears in a nice teddy bear shop in Navarre and have done well. I've sold a lot of them at my current place of employment but, I would love to be able to quit my real job and be a teddy bear artist full time. I hope to hear from you. Suzanne |

Although I have instructions for using a ladder stitch, I'm not sure how to do it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. "Buddy" a.k.a. "Weazzy" is anxious to get on with his/her life !!! Hope to hear from you soon. Maureen |

| Comments | Hi there, this is my first look at the Bear web pages. I have been making bears for nine years for the sheer joy of it. All are different, and most of them big. We have a campervan in England, and go over for a few months at a time. I visit all the toy museums and bear supply firms, and my husband visits all the Military Museums. We are going again in August until November. I like to go to the Schulte Mohair factory in Duisburg, (where you can buy fabrics a metre minimum, which are not usually available, being over runs on orders for Hermann and Steiff etc, and to Kremsmunster in Austria for crystal glass eyes. The very nice man who makes them also collects teddy bears, so we generally do a part swap! I like to make top of the line bears with the best of everything in them, so use Swiss Musical movements, German growlers and Australian or South African leather for the paw pads. Some of my bears' heads move to the music of their musical boxes. I bought some very nicely made Australian Nod/No mechanisms which operate when you move the little tail. I am the only bear maker in my small town, and really miss having someone to exchange ideas with. I have made about 370 bears since 1990, and some of them have emigrated to the US, Britain, Australia, Singapore and Germany. Wouldn't it be nice if they could write letters to tell one how they were doing? I enjoyed seeing pictures of your bears. They are all dear little characters - very busy getting on with their lives. I am enjoying a well earned rest. We had a large Rotary Conference here a week ago, and I have been spring cleaning my house and changing curtains and doing all the things I don't do when I am bear-making. You will be interested to hear that I designed a little bear which rolls up into a ball, tied with a ribbon at the top, and when it is opened up, the paws come away from the eyes and a sleepy face appears. I call it my Rolybear. Our small city has the second biggest festival in the world after the Edinburgh Festival, and this year it is going to be two weeks long, to celebrate its 25th Birthday. We have artists from all over the world and lots of interesting items on the Fringe. As we are retired, our time is our own. I use a small Singer hand machine for bear making in the campervan all over Europe. I take my Steiff bear 'Boet' everywhere I go, and take pictures of him doing interesting things for my grandchildren to see. I have wentto a big Bear Fair at Cape Town on 1 May. (My friend from East London, maker of Changle Bears went with me). I won the prize for the best bear over 18". Last year I entered Boet in the 'Most Travelled Bear' with his photo album, and he won the award. He has been to Scotland, England, France Germany Austria, Holland, Belgium Lichtenstein, and Australia, and sports a straw hat from Venice, and a leather hat with corks hanging from it from Australia, Scottish bagpipes, and a lovely Austrian cardigan made by a bear maker friend in Austria, called Karen Kronsteiner. She makes beautifully designed handmade bears which she sells for a fortune, and has a two year waiting list! She is young, and her apartment is filled with bears, mostly her own which take the place of the children she would have liked. When we first met, we talked for six hours non-stop about bears etc! I've got lots of things to chat about if you would like to write back. I have thought once or twice about entering my bears on a web page, but have not got around to it as yet. Hope to hear from you soon, Kit MIlls |
