Alamak / What Is An Operator?
An Operator, or "Op", is someone who is a paying member of Alamak Chat
and CyberMyst. Operator membership was created for two reasons. 1) To support server
improvments, upgrades to network costs. 2) To monitor the chat rooms so all users
can enjoy friendly chat without being flooded or harrassed.
Why become an Op?
Ops have the ability to use different fonts and colors. As an Op you can
make your text any color and even use a small program built into the chat which fades your text from one color
to the next.
As an Operator you can send and recieve Chat Mail from all other users of the chat. This mail can be sent in
your absence and can be read or deleted at any time while you are on the chat.
Operators have unlimited access to all services and can even get in when the system is at
maximum capacity.
All nicknames used by Operators are reserved. This means another person can not log into the chat as you
and pretend to be you. Nicknames are assigned on a first come first serve basis. If you want to be sure to be
able to keep you preferred nickname it is a good idea to sign up as an Op.
The wait command allows you to be automatically notified when a particular user or a user
with a particular IP address joins the chat.
Private rooms can only be made by Operators and these "custom" rooms can be locked or unlocked only by
the person who creates the room. See the Chat Policies for information on what differentiates a "custom" and
"private" room. Regular users can use the /join command to enter "set" rooms or existing, unlocked "custom" rooms but not to
create new "custom" rooms.
Ops can /summon users into a private room for conversation.
Ops have the unique ability to post links to pictures or other pages on the web as
long as it is not in violation of the "unauthorized advertising clause". These links can
either be attached to your nickname with the /pic command or posted into the chat with
the /http command.
After a period of a couple months Ops will pass a trial period, and will be able to
/kick and /ban, to protect the chat from flooding, foul language, and other abuses
by inconsiderate users. These commands should only be used in extreme cases. Please refer
to the Chat Policies for questions about kicking and
banning.
Operator membership is also good in CyberMyst as well as the chat. In CyberMyst
Operators can create and remove doors, describe rooms, keep gathered items, and save
score from session to session.
To register to play the new game Galactic Conq you must be an Operator and your
account in good standing for 2 months.
Currently the FreeHome utility on Server #1 and #2 are limited to Operators. So only
Ops can send and recieve cmail, maintain a /wait list, and use the address book,
freehome page, and personals.
