A mud never stands still, things are happening all the time whether you are doing anything or not. As a result you will always be receiving messages to your screen, and if you are using a basic telnet program then you will find it hard to sort out what you are typing and what has come in from Tharsis Gate.
As a result there have been many programs written to solve this problem, by separating out the text entry area from the information screen, as the java applet we provide does. These programs are called "Mud Clients".
In the process of writing these programs, people have added many many features that make mudding much easier to do. Features such as auto-mapping tools, "triggers" that activate on certain conditions, a history of your commands, etc.
We have obtained a slightly old version of a mud client called ZMUD and configured it to easily connect to Tharsis Gate. You can download it here. Just save the zip file with a name "zmud_tg.zip", then unzip it into any folder on your computer. Once this is done, run the "zmud.exe" file that you find. Note that Zmud is a shareware program and you are encouraged to pay the small fee if you use it for a long period of time.
The adminstration of Tharsis Gate has no objection to you using a client to connect to the mud, but there are certain things that can be done with clients that are forbidden and if you are caught doing them, then your character will be punished. The rule is simple:
This means that you can not leave a mud client running using triggers to perform some repetitive action without you sitting at the keyboard.
